IPM (Integrated Pest Management) is a holistic approach to pest management that also involves close collaboration between the pest control company and the infested facility, aimed at controlling insects, rodents, and other problematic pests.

The IPM principle is based on the adoption of a combination of appropriate measures to prevent, avoid, limit and, when necessary, specifically control infestations, with full respect for human health and the environment. This approach seeks to replace the isolated use of physical, chemical, or biological control methods. The use of chemical products is reduced to an absolute minimum, applied only in strictly necessary quantities.

IPM – Holistic Pest Management Approach

IPM (Integrated Pest Management) is a holistic pest management strategy for the control of insects, rodents, and other problematic pests.

IPM follows five key steps to minimize the use of substances harmful to the environment:

  • Identification of the pests present
  • Continuous monitoring of the infestation over time
  • Determination of intervention thresholds (when infestation exceeds an acceptable level based on the use of the premises)
  • Evaluation of mechanical, organizational, or treatment measures to be implemented, aiming to limit pesticide use as much as possible
  • Analysis of the results achieved

Understanding the type of pest and defining an acceptable quantitative threshold helps determine the most effective strategy to eliminate the problem.

Once the measures intended to reduce or eliminate the infestation have been implemented, it is essential to monitor and assess whether the objective has been achieved. If not, the process must return to step one and be repeated.

IPM prioritizes environmentally friendly solutions such as prevention, physical and mechanical methods (e.g. barriers and traps), and biological methods (such as the use of natural predators or natural products), rather than relying on chemical pesticides.
